Established in 2007 at the American University of Beirut (AUB) through a $5 million endowment from the Munib & Angela Masri Foundation, the Masri Institute serves as a regional hub for research and collaboration in the fields of energy, water, and the environment.

The Institute brings together researchers, academics, and industry professionals to address some of the Middle East’s most pressing sustainability challenges. Its work advances knowledge in clean energy production, energy efficiency, water purification, and environmental management, particularly within the oil and gas sector.

The Masri Institute is housed in the Munib & Angela Masri Building, made possible through the support of AUB Trustee Munib R. Masri. Inaugurated in 2018, the Institute continues to expand its role as a center for interdisciplinary research and innovation. It fosters collaboration between academia, the private sector, and public institutions, strengthening civic engagement and promoting sustainable development across Lebanon and the wider region.
