Edgo, in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) (World Bank Group) and the Abdali Developers Association (ADA), hosted an exclusive seminar on Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE). The event took place at the IFC offices, located within the Edgo Atrium (EAB), a LEED Gold-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building currently pursuing EDGE certification.
The seminar focused on the EDGE certification system, a globally recognized framework that enhances resource efficiency in buildings by optimizing energy, water, and material usage. It gathered developers, architects, and industry professionals from the Abdali district in Amman, Jordan, providing them with valuable insights into IFC’s EDGE certification, its benefits, and the necessary steps to achieve certification.
Omar M. Masri, CEO of Edgo, opened the seminar by welcoming attendees and stressing the urgent need for sustainability. He highlighted the negative environmental impacts of inaction and emphasized the importance of educating communities on integrating sustainable practices into building design. His remarks were followed by Marcel Rached, IFC Country Head in Jordan, who reinforced the significance of sustainability in Jordan and the broader region.
The seminar continued with presentations from industry experts. Abeer K. Shalan, Senior Operations Officer at IFC, delivered an insightful presentation on EDGE certification as an innovation of IFC, its rapid adoption, and its expanding impact. She was followed by Maysoon Al Khuraissat, a Sustainable Development Consultant, who provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of resource efficiency in buildings and outlined the process of obtaining EDGE certification. Both speakers led engaging discussions, providing key takeaways on sustainable development and equipping participants with the knowledge to integrate long-term environmental and economic benefits into their projects.
This collaboration reinforces Edgo’s commitment to sustainability and aligns with its Net-Zero Emissions 2045 initiative, a key pillar of the company’s long-term strategy. Through this seminar, Edgo and its partners sought to advance the global green building movement by encouraging developers to adopt sustainable practices, fostering a more resource-efficient and environmentally responsible future.
This session was held under the Jordan Green Building Advisory project, that is funded by the MENA Private Sector Development (PSD) program which is in partnership with the government of the Netherlands. The project aims to support Jordan in improving resource efficiency and achieving sustainable development goals by improving the enabling environment for green building.
